Dense, wet cloud forest on steep slopes on substrate of mixed sandstone and clay soil. Dwarf forest on exposed ridges with higher quartzite sand content. 1320 m elev.

NoteTree 10 m tall, with dense, compact crown of leaves. Fruits borne at outer edge of crown, just above the leaves. Fruits irregularly globose, green suffused dark reddish, with very hard stony endocarp.
