In shaded forest understory, gentle west slope; with Larix occidentalis, Abies grandis, Rosa gymnocarpa, Vaccinium scoparium, Linnaea, Achillea, Lycopodium annotinum, Chinmaphila umbellata. Fruit orange, globose, 8-10 millimeter diameter, 1-seeded.
