At edge of forest and partly in forest. Trees or shrubs, 3-5 m tall; leaves green on lower surface; darker green and shining on upper surface; calyx blackening; fruit immature, green.

Pu'er. South of Nanping-zhen at north end of Meizi-hu (artificial lake) scenic spot near Pu'er New Century Meizi Lake Hotel. Remnant forest around artificial lake, soil stony clay; trees ca. 15-20 m tall, Pinus the most conspicuous. Understory including Helicia, Lyonia, Polyspora, Wendlandia, Ilex, Pyrus, Rubus several Fabaceae and numerous vines, including Smilax and Celastrus. 1340-1350 m. elev.
