Small erect shrub to 2-2.5 m tall with few proproots at base. Leaves c. 5 x 2.5 cm, base red with purple prickles, retrose on the midrib, with long apical flagellum. Infrutescence erect on a long and slender peduncle, c. 2 x 40 cm. Syncarp oblong, c. 5 x 17 cm. c. 13 x 20 cm at maturity. Stigma forked.
