The stems are densely clothed in overlapping green leaves, transitioning to bright yellow and red toward the stem apex. Flowers are densely hairy and white to cream, clustering in axils beneath the brightly coloured floral leaves; in Western Cape, they bear prominent protruding styles that are yellow to orange-red.
