As seen in 4 occurrences, in Crete, Greece, and Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kakheti and Adjara, Georgia: Leaves are alternate and oblong-lanceolate with toothed to serrated margins and prominent parallel veins. Inflorescences are slender cylindrical catkins, emerging in bud and opening to pale yellowish-green to creamy-white flowers with protruding stamens; female flowers, observed in Adjara, are enclosed in green scaly bracts with protruding styles. Bark, recorded only in Kakheti, is mottled grey and pale brown with a rough, knobby texture.
