In Pinus plantation in moist, clay soil. Shrub ca. 1.3 m tall; leaves green on both surfaces, slightly shining abaxially; corolla tube and lobes reddish purple outside, pale purple inside, very slightly fragrant; fruit immature, green.

Along stream at base of mixed forest of Acer (3 species), Betula, Abies, Picea, Sorbus, Salix, Taxus, with Hippophaë immediately along stream and mixed shrub understory and rich herb layer; soil dark and moist. 2675 m elev.

In and at margin of forest and at base of steep slope. Shrubs 0.5-1 m tall; flowers only faintly fragrant; corolla tube dark purple, lobes abaxially purple, adaxially whitish or pale purple, but darkening in age.
